Tunneling

This audio-visual-sculptural performance serves as a hybrid forensic investigation / tutorial, in which I dig a multilayered, projected tunnel in the wall of the performance space, revealing real and imagined substructures, materials and memories. The process utilizes high and low special effects techniques drawn from across the military-industrial-entertainment complex: from tactical wall probes to domestic demolitions, from live esthetic surgery to interactive cooking shows.

The piece is highly site-sensitive, as a different “tunnel” is constructed according to the materials and contexts present at the location of the performance. The project is an ongoing platform, incorporating text, sound and materials from my other audio visual projects focusing around different subject matter and site-sensitive context each time it is performed.

Previous performances took place in Europe, Israel, and across the US, and included past collaborations with Surabhi Saraf and Daniel Davidovsky.

To the right is a demonstration of the basic “Tunneling” process: the image is constructed in real-time, through use of a green-screen setup and custom software which memorizes the appearance of each layer of material as it’s being cut, and layers these videos on top of each other and the current live feed.
