Coms Device

Single channel video, 7:55 minutes

A performer re-delivers in realtime an improvised version of a monologue she listens to via an ipod, about an incident involving an invented digital scanning device in an Israeli army checkpoint in Palestine, and related events. She is only visible through her reflection in the camera-person’s eyeball (he is also the one who recorded the original monologue). The image is acquired via a lo-fi version of an eye-tracking camera rig, such as is normally used for psychology and market research.

A short text about the piece was written by Dr Shirley Bahar, for my solo show Seret at Julie M Gallery in Tel Aviv on June 2011.

Credits: Performer: Lee Blalock; Cinematography: Nadav Assor & Yoni Goldstein; Gaffer: Gonzalo Escobar; Sound: Lucas Schira; Additional help: Yefeng Wang, John Wangle
